Etcetera, Etcetera, Etcetera……

……. is the name of one of the gorgeous Stampin’ Up! Designer Series Papers (DSP) 130129 13,25 € | £9.95 for 12 sheets. My husband couldn’t understand why I was so pleased with myself last night whilst I was wrapping birthday gifts for his Mum, but there are 3 particular designs that are just perfect for her, as she used to be a seamstress and taught at a college part-time when my husband was a little boy.

I’m sure you can all understand why I was so happy can’t you? I used the Extra-Gift box 132147 4,95 € | £3.75 (for 3 Kraft boxes), which is from the new Autumn/Winter Catalogue, and covered it with one of the sheets of DSP which has a dress-makers mannequin as the main focus of the design.

There are 4 boxes of chocolates in this one large box from my sons.

I then used the sheet which is is a replica of a “pattern” to wrap the present from David and myself. It looked quite masculine, as its in Night of Navy, so I prettied it up with a belly band made from the tape measure patterned paper and added a few paper flowers and a Very Vintage Designer Button 129327 6,95 € | £5.50.

We’re going to visit and hand over the gifts this afternoon. The surprise won’t be spoilt by posting the pictures on my blog as my in-laws are not silver surfers. They are quite techno-phobic to be honest. My son made me laugh a few weeks ago, when my father-in-law commented that Tom and Jerry was around when he was a little boy but that he didn’t have a television at home. My 4 year old son was surprised and asked him if he only had an iPad then? (The boys watch Cbeebies programmes in the iPlayer app on my iPad). He couldn’t understand that things like the iPad have not always been around!!

Well I hope you like my project for today. I will be sharing more projects with you in a couple of weeks using products from the new Autmn/Winter Catalogue, which is out now. Click on the picture below to go to the online version. There are soooooooooo many lovely goodies you will want them all!!

Look what we made in class…..

I held my monthly card class a week early this month (usually held last Thursday of the month) as I am away on holiday next week. Originally I wasn’t going to hold one at all but decided after the last class to bring it forward as everyone was willing to come along.

I’m so glad I did, I had a great time and everyone loved the project we made especially as we used a few different techniques, which were new to some of the ladies, including using a wheel to stamp the butterflies and paper piercing, dry embossing as well as heat embossing. That’s why classes are so good as you get to try out so many different techniques you haven’t tried before and can decide if you like them before you invest in the kit to do them at home.

We started off making the 4 notelets in red, orange, yellow and blue. Where possible I used contrasting, darker tones of the same colour for the punched out butterflies. These were a happy accident as my original design for this class was a bit different. I’m glad it didn’t work out though as I love how these butterflies turned out.

Stampin Up butterfly collection elegant bitty butterfly punch Tracy May card making

I think this has to be my favourite. The 3 rows of butterflies are stamped using the Butterfly Collection Jumbo wheel in Pool Party Ink. The butterfly punches are from Bermuda Bay cardstock and the notelet is finished off with a couple of rows of paper-pierced holes and a small Bermuda Bay button and white bakers twine bow.

I used different embellishments in different colours. This one used a Crushed Curry Candy dot and brad base.

We then completed the project by making the notelet holder. The eagle eyed among you will notice I have cased a card from page 90 of the Annual Catalogue to decorate the front of the box lid.  Phew… no wonder the class overran a little but no-one seemed to mind.

I was recently contacted by someone, who was interested in coming to my class but it was a little bit far for her to come and it got me thinking that there must be other people out there who would love to attend classes and crafty get togethers as crafting with other people is so much fun. You instantly have something in common to talk about and break the ice when you first meet someone new. So what about you? Are you in the same position where there is no class nearby to you? Have you ever thought about becoming a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator and holding your own classes? It’s not that hard you know. I started off by inviting friends, then took out a free advert in the free local paper and also my Stampin’ Up! website all of which is helping my class to grow.

If you are interested I would love to talk to you and share my experience with you. So come on – come and join in all the fun! Give me a call on 07788746908 or email me at

Oh I wish it could be Christmas…..

…… every day! Yes I have the Wizzard tune running round my head now and it has been since last week when my Christmas pre-order turned up and I opened the box. I did feel as excited as a kid at Christmas!

The box was full of Christmas papers, stamps, punches, shiny ribbon and the fantastic Typeset Alphabet Bigz (108,95 €  | £80.95 127553), which I got as my half price item (ahem yes it was a rather largish order).

I just love Stampin’ Up! They offer so many free and half price rewards to everyone – demonstrators, customers, hostesses. If you want to know more about that, then please feel free to get in touch 07788746908 /

I know it’s still only August and as I just couldn’t resist having a play with the new alphabet bigz and as most of my order was Christmas related, I thought it would be rude not to make a Christmas card – ha ha ha or rather ho ho ho!

My friend Lina has made me promise this will be her Christmas card this year. She loves the sparkle of the Silver Glimmer paper (5,95 € | £4.50 124005).

The other items you will need to make this card are:

Six-Sided Sampler

I have been out and about all week with the boys to keep them entertained over the school holidays. I think I may have arranged a few too many things to do though. On the plus side my eldest son has been so much better behaved. When I told him how good he was being his response was not a surprise (this time). He said that he was being good because we weren’t at home!

He has told me on a few other occassions that he has made the decision to be naughty when we are at home. The first time I was shocked as I hadn’t realised that such a young child was capable of making the decision to misbehave – he’s only 4. I had just assumed that bad behaviour was a result of boredom/tiredness/hunger etc. Oh no not so with my son! Days at home are complete bedlam!!

Anyway, I did manage to have a play with one of my more recent stamp sets and co-ordinating punches.

Stampin Up Six Sided Sampler demonstrator Tracy May card making

In the end I settled on punching out some of the 2013-2015 In-colours DSP from some scraps I had left over from covering the notebooks for the teachers gifts. I had a play around with my paper piercing templates as well and pierced around some of the hexagons and in between others. For the sentiment down the side I used my stamp-a-majig and Burnt Brown Sugar marker pens. I love using the markers on stamps.

So for this card I used:

Six-sided Sampler stamp set, Burnt Brown Sugar Ink pad and Marker pen, Whisper White and Burnt Brown Sugar card stock, Hexagon punch, In-colours 2013-2015 DSP.

We were at a party earlier today at the house of the parents of friends. My husband took my eldest son to the bathroom, which had a series of old black and white photographs of the local area on the wall. When he told my son they had been taken a long time ago, my son wanted to know who took them – was it a burglar?! Bless he still thinks quite literally about certain things.

The Gift unveiled

Well I finally managed to catch up with my friend and give her her belated birthday present. She loved it I’m pleased to say. I had made her a set of 8 cards (4 birthday and 4 thank you cards) and a decorated candle.

For her birthday card I was inspired by a fellow Pinkie Vicky Hayes aka Crafting Clare and a card she made. Click here to see her original. For my card I used the Blooming with Kindness Stamp Set again.

Stampin Up blooming with kindness gift ideas card making Tracy May

I followed the same colour scheme for the cards and candle as I did for the birthday card and gift packaging, which is primarily Bermuda Bay with a touch of Coastal Cabana and a hint of Soft Sky.

I used a technique on these two cards that I learned at a Stampin’ Up! event in Telford in May.  Another Pinkie, Lynne Fahey, got up on stage and demonstrated the technique of using the acrylic stampin blocks to make backgrounds by inking them up with ink pads, markers and reinkers. For the following cards I used the Bermuda Bay, Coastal Cabana and Soft Sky ink pads.

This one uses the Best of Flowers stamp set and is my friend’s favourite. I also made another version but as a Thank You card.

Lynne has a tutorial on her blog for this technique, which you can find by clicking here.

The Pinkies are a very talented bunch and if you are interested in joining our team, then please don’t hesitate to call me for more information.

I think this one is my favourite. Or maybe the one below – I just love the simplicity of them.

And finally the candle….

Stampin Up Blooming with Kindness gift ideas card making Tracy May

I have developed my own technique for the candles, which is very simple, although I’m sure there are lots of people who do the same. After stamping on tissue paper and cutting it out, I wrap the image around the candle under a layer of greaseproof/baking paper. I then heat it with a heat gun until I see the wax melting and the image starting to get wet. I then smooth over the baking paper with a cloth (so I don’t burn my fingers) to gently push the tissue paper further into the candle. Rotate and repeat until you’ve completed the entire image.

I have used the following Stampin’ Up! products

Stamp sets:  Blooming with Kindness, Best of Flowers, Inks: Bermuda Bay, Coastal Cabana, Soft Sky, Card Stock: Whisper White, Bermuda Bay.

If you would like to purchase any Stampin’ Up! products or would like more information about joing Stampin’ Up! then please don’t hesitate to contact me either by email – or by phone 07788746908.

Thanks for stopping by

I come bearing gifts (hopefully)

It was one of my best friends’ birthdays a couple of weeks ago and I have not yet seen her to give her her present. She was crazy busy as a major character in a production of Pirates of Penzance, with the final performance being on her birthday. Since then we haven’t managed to get together due to school times and now illness. I am hoping though, that she is well enough for her belated birthday bash tonight, so I can finally give her her gift.

Stampin Up demonstrator gift ideas Blooming with kindness Tracy May paper

Her favourite colours are greeny blues so Stampin’ Up!’s Bermuda Bay and Coastal Cabana are absolutely perfect. For the gift box I have used Bermuda Bay Brights Collection Designer Series Paper. The panel on the gift bag was stamped using the beautiful flower from the Blooming with Kindness Stamp set.

I will post the contents of this gift over the weekend as it is all handmade too. I’m hoping she will like it

Simply Sketched – a Hostess Gift set

Well after the battle of bedtime on Saturday night, my youngest was up at 5 am Sunday morning! That obviously meant that so was I! By 8:30 am he was shattered so I put him back to bed – lucky him! He slept for 3 hours and my husband spent the time with our eldest son leaving me free to play.

Ever since I got the hostess set Simply Sketched I have wanted to make a notecard gift set to use as the Hostess gift at a party. This set can only be purchased with Hostess Rewards.  I have also wanted to try watercolouring with the poppy in the set. I love poppies and I especially love watercolour paintings of poppies.  I started off by stamping onto watercolour paper using black stazon ink and colouring the flower in with the aqua painters and some ink from the reinkers but I didn’t like the results.

Not giving up though I decided to try out the Stampin’ Write Markers. I coloured the real red and old olive ones directly onto the stamp before spritzing the stamp with water. I then stamped the image onto whisper white card stock.

The first couple of tries I used a bit too much water but I have used the images anyway as I really like them.

I also used the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set and honeycomb embossing folder for the background. The sentiment is also from a hostess set, Express Yourself.

I used Pear Pizazz as the background as a contrast to the Old Olive layer. I also only embossed a small section of the card by using a strip of cardboard placed over the outside of the embossing folder. I ran it through the bigshot on the multipurpose platform with all tabs closed, but only using one cutting plate instead of two.

I finished off the cards by cutting out the flowers and coloured card layers using the new squares framelits and adding some of the new candy dots.

Stars & Stripes ( ok Stitching really, not stripes)

 Hey, how’re you doing?

At time of writing I am currently in the midst of the battle of bedtime with the Bedlam brothers.  The eldest insists on wrapping himself up tight in the sheet completely covering his head as well, whilst the youngest just refuses to stay in bed. He keeps getting out and hiding in the little Ikea tent they have in their bedroom.  Eventually he will wear himself out and fall asleep, but not before he’s worn me out too. Unfortunately no matter how late he gets off to sleep, he’s up unreasonably early the next day too. Grrr – no lie in for me then!

Anyway, I wanted to share a card that is a mix of two that I cased (copy and share everything) from Pinterest.

Here’s my card:

Stampin up demonstrator card making simply stars gorgeous grunge

And here is the first card I cased with hearts instead of stars. The stars and grunge idea came from this card. I chose the colour scheme of old olive and cherry cobbler after receiving my Seasonal Happiness (new SU autumn/winter catalogue) this week in the post.

Stampin up demonstrator card making simply stars gorgeous grunge

For the stitching on the card, I used my paper piercer and Essentials paper piercing template and then hand sewed through the holes, as I do not own a sewing machine. I got put off sewing when I was at school as my needlework teacher didn’t seem to like me. She certainly was not amused when I stitched the apron we were making to my school tie and she had to unpick it for me. I thought it was hilarious. Well you do when you’re 11/12 years old don’t you?  In fairness I was probably one of many who had done it and so she was fed up with having to unpick all those tiny stitches!

Well I hope you like the project. All has gone quiet upstairs so I’m off to check they are finally asleep 🙂

For this project you would need:

  • Cardstock: Old Olive (Brights)106576 £6.25 | 8,50 € (A4 x 24 sheets), Whisper White (Neutrals) 106549 £7.50 | 9,75 € (A4 x 40 sheets)
  • Ink: Old Olive (Brights) 126953 £4.95 | 6,50 €, Cherry Cobler (Regals)126966 £4.95 | 6,50 €, Stamps: (New) Gorgeous Grunge (Wood) 29,95 € | £21.95 130514, (Clear) 23,95 € | £17.95 130517, Simply Stars (Wood) 16,95 € | £12.95 130889, (Clear) 13,95 € | £9.95 130892,
  • Tools: Paper snips (best scissors ever!) 103579 £8.95 | 11,95 €, Paper-piercing tool 126189 £3.50 | 4,95 €, Stampin’ Pierce Mat 126199 £4.50 | 5,95 €, Paper-piercing pack Essentials 126187 £7.25 | 9,50 €, needle and cotton (non SU) – obviously you can use a sewing machine if you have one 🙂

School’s Out for Summer!

Yes I have the Alice Cooper song running round and round in my head this morning. It reminds me of breaking up from school each summer when I was younger.

Now it’s my eldest son’s turn. This morning is his last day at nursery and he is excited about it, as it means he will be going to “big” school and the Shark’s class. Poor little love doesn’t realise that he has a 7 week gap first, which I need to fill with things to do!

I made some gifts for him to give to his teacher and the teaching assistants. This seems to be much more the done thing than when I was at school.  As we had a joint collection from the whole class anyway I kept it simple by with a re-covered notebook, post it note holder and a pen with the barrel covered in the new 2013 – 2015 In colours DSP (designer series paper).

Stampin Up Brights DSP paper craft Flower Shop Tracy May

I followed a tutorial by the lovely Sam Hammond Donald (a fellow Pinkie) for the notebooks. You can see her tutorial here.

For the sticky note holders I simply made it up. I knew I wanted a flap over the bottom as well as the top so I played around with some card stock until I had what I wanted.

The measurements are for a 7.5cm x 7.5cm sticky note pad. Cut your card stock to 19.5cm x 8.5cm. Score at 4cm, 5cm, 13cm and 14cm. You then cut three panels of DSP to 8cm x3.5cm, 8cm x 7.5cm and 8cm x 5cm.  I then stamped and punched out a flower from the Flower Shop stamp set and glued it on the front slightly hanging over the top flap. Inside I have used some velcro circles I got from Amazon to keep the flaps closed.

The pens were amazingly the trikiest part. I had wanted to insert a roll of DSP into the barrel but the ends of the pens would not come out so I ended up glueing the paper onto the outside. A bit messy but I think they look great.

The products I used for the gifts are all Stampin’ Up!:

In colours 2013 – 2015 DSP 130136 £19.50 | 25,95 € (40 sheets), In colours 2013 – 2015 Cardstock and Pad kit 131293 £27.95 | 36,95 € (includes 5 ink pads and pack of 20 sheets A4) all items can also be bought separately – ink pads £4.95 | 6,50 € and A4 x 24 sheets cardstock £6.25 | 8,50 €, Stamp Sets: Flower Shop (W) 130939 £21.95 | 28,95 €, (C) 130942 £17.95 | 22,95 €, ABC – 123 Sketch Alphabet & Number (C only) 130565 £19.95 | 26,95 €.  Punches: 3/4″ (1.9cm) Circle 119873 £11.50 | 15,95 €, Pansy 130698 £14.25 | 19,25 €. Happy Day(s)

Hi, how’s your weekend going so far?
I’ve been quite productive – my mother-in-law and I finished fixing the trampoline surround yesterday. My 4 year old son had managed to rip an enormous gash all along one of the panels so I decided to “Make Do and Mend”. My son tried to “help” before I chased him away. It’s hard to sew when you are sitting on a trampoline with someone bouncing on it!
Once the kids were in bed I managed to finish a card and present for one of my best friends. It was her birthday yesterday – I know, I know late again!! I will post some pictures of the card and present after I have handed them over to her on Wednesday when I see her.
Today’s card is one that was inspired by a card one of my fellow Pinkies Lizy Bartaby posted on her blog Creatin’ and Stampin’. Take a look at Lizy’s card here.
I love the overstamping style and have used it quite a lot with other stamp sets, but I hadn’t actually thought to use it with Happy Day until I saw the background on Lizy’s card.

I’m really pleased with the results and I just love the new In-Colours as well especially Strawberry Slush and Coastal Cabana. Which ones are your favourites?
The products used are:
Whisper White A4 card stock 106549 £6.25 | 8,50 €, Strawberry Slush A4 card stock 131300 £6.25 | 8,50 €,  Strawberry Slush ink 131178 £4.95 | 6,50 €,  Happy Day Stamp set (W) 130294 £19.95 | 26,95 €, (C) 130297 £15.95 | 21,95 €, Express Yourself (Hostess Only Stamp set) (W) 130336, (C) 130339
