Best Birds by Stamping’ Up!

Best Birds by Stamping’ Up!

Hello again. I’m back with another create for the Create with Connie & Mary blog challenge. This week it’s a sketch challenge. I find these easier than the colour challenges but I do like to not always be too literal in following the sketch. So this week, I’ve gone for a bird from Best Birds by Stampin’ Up!,  instead of flowers, as my main image.

Best Birds by Stampin' Up! Tracy May #CCMC457

I started with the embossed panel instead of a piece of DSP. Then I added the branch, which I had left over from a previous project. I stamped the bird in Basic Black Archival ink onto watercolour paper before colouring with ink and an aqua-painter. The base colour of the breast is So Saffron followed by Crumb Cake, Chocolate Chip and Early Espresso. I worked in layers, building up from light to dark and blended using the aqua painter.

The sentiment is from Balloon Celebration. A while ago I had been making a birthday card using Basic Black with a white sentiment and decided it would be handy to have a bunch ready to go. So, I stamped about a dozen at the sane time and embossed with white embossing powder. I cut them up into banners but left both ends longer so I can change whether they point to the left or the right depending on the card I am making.

I love the way the card has turned out especially with the Soft Sky card base.

So what do you think? I hope you like it. Please do pop along and see what the rest of the design team have made for you this week!

With the start of the school holidays yesterday and not having been organised enough to have done my project before the boys broke up, I needed something quick and easy to prepare for today’s hop. I’ve had the idea in my head for a while now, to team up Best Birds & Birds & Blooms Thinlits by Stampin’ Up! with the Floral Boutique Designer Washi tape.

My original idea had been to use the unstamped bird die cut on the card above but it didn’t look right, so I stamped one of the sparrow images and cut it out instead.

I thought the stamped branch would make a good perch for the unstamped die cut bird. I used the Washi tape to create a border around the edge of a Whisper White card base. What do you think? I really like it!

Crazy Crafters Blog Hop!

Crazy Crafters Blog Hop with special guest….ME!!

13509670_1063556407030727_454297138_o

Woohoo – happy Sunday everyone! I am so so so so so excited (yes that’s a lot of excited!) to be joining the fabulous Kylie Bertucci’s team, the Crazy Crafters, blog hop today! Amazingly all her lovely team are CASEing me! Wow! I can barely believe it! I am feeling extremely honoured to have been asked. Thank You Kylie! So why don’t you hop along with us on the Crazy Crafters Blog Hop!

Kylie’s team are from all over Australia and they have each picked a card from my blog that inspired them and have made a project based on that card. For my own card, I decided to CASE my watercolour bird cards.

Pop of Paradise from Stampin' Up! Tracy May #helloannualcatalogue20162017

Picture Perfect from Stampin' Up! Watercolour Hummingbird Tracy May

I loved making these cards and I knew as soon as I saw the Best Birds stamp set, in the annual catalogue that I would be trying out similar watercolour techniques.  I stuck to the same colour scheme of Melon Mambo and Tempting Turquoise for today’s card, but I also added some Daffodil Delight too!

Abstract Watercolour Bird Card using Best Birds fby Stampin' Up! Tracy May

I started by colouring the sparrow stamp with Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight and Tempting Turquoise Stampin’ Write Markers. I spritzed the stamp with water before I stamped onto damp watercolour paper. I let the colours bleed out and then dry before I inked up the bird again, this time adding some black from my old Basic Black Stampin’ Write marker which still has the pigment ink in it! I’ve never had to re-ink it so I haven’t filled it with the new Archival Basic Black ink yet.

I stamped the branch in Tempting Turquoise ink. Again, I spritzed the stamp with water before I stamped. I covered up the sparrow once it and the branch were dry and then splattered some more Tempting Turquoise ink all over the card. Once it was dry I mounted it on Basic Black card stock and finished the card with a sliver of Silver Glimmer paper down the side and a sentiment banner. Confession time! I had to use a banner as I smudged the sentiment I stamped directly onto the watercolour paper! I was too impatient and didn’t leave it to dry duh! Oh well good save I say! Lol! What do you think?

Thanks for stopping by! And a big thank you to Kylie and all her Crazy Crafters for allowing me to join them this week! It’s been great fun! Enjoy hopping!

Best Birds & Birds & Blooms by Stampin’ Up!

Best Birds & Birds & Blooms by Stampin’ Up! for #GDP042

Happy Monday folks! I’m back after a busy weekend, no crafting, hence the lateness of today’s post! For today’s card I checked what was happening on the Global Design Project challenge this week. Hurrah! It’s a fantastic sketch by the super-talented Teneale Williams! Phew!

GDP042

I already had the card front with the circle stamped using the Hardwood background stamp in my basked of unfinished projects. I had stamped through a mask that I made using window sheet a while back. The mask can be reused multiple times and just wipes clean as well!

The wood background made me think of Best Birds & Birds & Blooms by Stampin’ Up! Best Birds is a fabulous new stamp set and Birds & Blooms is the co-ordinating thinlits die set!

Best Birds & Birds & Blooms by Stampin' Up! Tracy May #GDP042

I stamped one of the sparrows and the branch in Basic Black Archival ink onto watercolour paper. I water coloured the sparrow first in a thin wash of So Saffron ink, before going over the top with Crumb Cake. I then added Chocolate Chip and Early Espresso around the top of the head, eyes, wings and tails. I felt the belly and cheeks were a bit too Crumb Cakey so I lifted some of the ink off with the aqua painter and kitchen towel. I love that you can do that with water colouring to high light certain areas.

Best Birds & Birds & Blooms by Stampin' Up! Tracy May 00002

I thought the background needed a bit of a lift, so I splattered clear Wink of Stella all over it before adding it to a Soft Sky card base. I popped the bird and the branch up using the new foam adhesive strips. I also added a few sequins to finish the card off.

So what do you think? I really love this new bundle of stamps and thinlits! I’ve got a few more ideas swirling around my brain for them too!

Thanks for stopping by! You can purchase any of the products used via my online shop if you are in the UK, France, Germany, Austria or the Netherlands! Thank you for your support!
