Best Birds by Stamping’ Up!

Best Birds by Stamping’ Up!

Hello again. I’m back with another create for the Create with Connie & Mary blog challenge. This week it’s a sketch challenge. I find these easier than the colour challenges but I do like to not always be too literal in following the sketch. So this week, I’ve gone for a bird from Best Birds by Stampin’ Up!,  instead of flowers, as my main image.

I started with the embossed panel instead of a piece of DSP. Then I added the branch, which I had left over from a previous project. I stamped the bird in Basic Black Archival ink onto watercolour paper before colouring with ink and an aqua-painter. The base colour of the breast is So Saffron followed by Crumb Cake, Chocolate Chip and Early Espresso. I worked in layers, building up from light to dark and blended using the aqua painter.

The sentiment is from Balloon Celebration. A while ago I had been making a birthday card using Basic Black with a white sentiment and decided it would be handy to have a bunch ready to go. So, I stamped about a dozen at the sane time and embossed with white embossing powder. I cut them up into banners but left both ends longer so I can change whether they point to the left or the right depending on the card I am making.

I love the way the card has turned out especially with the Soft Sky card base.

So what do you think? I hope you like it. Please do pop along and see what the rest of the design team have made for you this week!

Look at the beautiful colours for this week’s colour challenge over at Create with Connie & Mary! I didn’t think I would struggle so much with these colours when I first saw them! BUT oh boy did I ever!! I had planned my card out in advance as I sometimes do but when I actually made it, I hated it! It just didn’t work! In fact my first three attempts all ended up in the bin!

In the end I actually CASEd myself using Balloon Celebration by Stampin’ Up!  I had this card out on my desk for some reason and it inspired the card I’m posting today!

Originally I was going to cut out a butterfly but changed my mind last minute and I cut out the cute little bird from Birds & Blooms instead.  I actually am so pleased with how the card turned out in the end. Just to show how I used the colours, I stamped the allium in Pool Party and the bubbles/ink splats in Pear Pizazz.

The bird is cut out of watercolour paper which I had painted with Sweet Sugarplum ink and an aqua painter! I also stamped the sentiment in Sweet Sugarplum and then mounted the card front onto a Pool Party card base.

So what do you think? Please do pop over to the Create with Connie & Mary challenge blog to see all the lovely cards the rest of the design team have come up with!

Birds & Blooms by Stampin’ Up!

I have a really weird “Déjà vu” about this card! I’ve been wanting to use one of the smaller bird framelits from Birds & Blooms by Stampin’ Up! as I think it is soooo cute! And so as  I was playing around making something else, I just grabbed the thinlits. And I cut out the cutie bird from Melon Mambo card stock that I had handy!

I also had the card front lurking around in my basket of unfinished projects. Yes I had gotten as far as putting on the washi tape and sliver of Silver glimmer paper before I ran out of steam. Anyway, I love the combination of Night of Navy and Melon Mambo already on the card, so I simply stuck on 3 of the birds I had cut out and slapped it onto a Night of Navy Card base. I love the little bird on the left facing the other way. It’s a really simple, but cute card. And I just can’t shake the feeling I’ve seen it somewhere before, hence the “Déjà vu” feeling. I searched Pinterest but I couldn’t find one similar so maybe it’s just my imagination. If not please do let me know, won’t you?

Thanks x

With the start of the school holidays yesterday and not having been organised enough to have done my project before the boys broke up, I needed something quick and easy to prepare for today’s hop. I’ve had the idea in my head for a while now, to team up Best Birds & Birds & Blooms Thinlits by Stampin’ Up! with the Floral Boutique Designer Washi tape.

My original idea had been to use the unstamped bird die cut on the card above but it didn’t look right, so I stamped one of the sparrow images and cut it out instead.

I thought the stamped branch would make a good perch for the unstamped die cut bird. I used the Washi tape to create a border around the edge of a Whisper White card base. What do you think? I really like it!

Best Birds & Birds & Blooms by Stampin’ Up! for #GDP042

Happy Monday folks! I’m back after a busy weekend, no crafting, hence the lateness of today’s post! For today’s card I checked what was happening on the Global Design Project challenge this week. Hurrah! It’s a fantastic sketch by the super-talented Teneale Williams! Phew!

I already had the card front with the circle stamped using the Hardwood background stamp in my basked of unfinished projects. I had stamped through a mask that I made using window sheet a while back. The mask can be reused multiple times and just wipes clean as well!

The wood background made me think of Best Birds & Birds & Blooms by Stampin’ Up! Best Birds is a fabulous new stamp set and Birds & Blooms is the co-ordinating thinlits die set!

I stamped one of the sparrows and the branch in Basic Black Archival ink onto watercolour paper. I water coloured the sparrow first in a thin wash of So Saffron ink, before going over the top with Crumb Cake. I then added Chocolate Chip and Early Espresso around the top of the head, eyes, wings and tails. I felt the belly and cheeks were a bit too Crumb Cakey so I lifted some of the ink off with the aqua painter and kitchen towel. I love that you can do that with water colouring to high light certain areas.

I thought the background needed a bit of a lift, so I splattered clear Wink of Stella all over it before adding it to a Soft Sky card base. I popped the bird and the branch up using the new foam adhesive strips. I also added a few sequins to finish the card off.

So what do you think? I really love this new bundle of stamps and thinlits! I’ve got a few more ideas swirling around my brain for them too!
