Colour Challenge Week #CCMC420

Picture Perfect by Stampin’ Up! for Create with Connie & Mary

This week it’s a colour challenge over at the Create with Connie & Mary Challenge Blog. These are totally my kind of colours! I don’t know why but I instantly thought of the hummingbird from Picture Perfect by Stampin’ Up! when I sat down to really look at this challenge. I haven’t used Picture Perfect for a while and have been itching to get it out and use it again. So that could be why!

CCMC420

Spoiler Alert: Look away now if you don’t want to see new product from the soon to be launched Autumn/Winter catalogue! I bet you look! Lol!

I absolutely love the new Ghoulish Grunge stamp set! To be honest there’s really only stamp in the set which I would say is really Halloweeny. The rest of the set is so versatile and can be used for backgrounds for any occasion.

To make the card:

  • I started by inking up the Brick image in Smoky Slate and stamping off on scrap paper before stamping onto the right hand side of my card front. You will need to stamp twice to cover the length of the card front.
  • Next, I inked up the paint drip image in Calypso Coral. Again I stamped off before I stamped onto the card front.
  • I stamped the humming bird first in stamped off Pool Party, then stamped the throat in Calypso Coral;
  • The 3rd stamp I used full strength Pool Party and finally I stamped the final bird image in Smoky Slate!

I hope you like it! Please do pop over to the Create with Connie & Mary Challenge Blog to see what the rest of the team have come up with for these colours!

Star Fish from Stampin’ Up! Picture Perfect

Star Fish from Stampin’ Up! Picture Perfect

I have been going through my retiring list marking off all the items as they are selling out and I just can’t keep up with it!! I don’t think I can make projects with the retiring items as quickly as they are selling out, so I decided to concentrate on what’s staying for the time being! Today’s project is using the Star Fish from Stampin’ Up! Picture Perfect.

140520G

I am a bit perplexed by this image. I’m not sure whether I think it’s really as photo realistic as the other images in the set, nor do I quite understand why it’s in the set in the first place as it feels a bit out of place – but then who’s to say every stamp has to belong together?

Star Fish from Stampin' Up! Picture Perfect Tracy May

I created the background by doing a watercolour wash using Pacific Point ink refill. Once it was dry I over stamped with a stamped off Bermuda Bay using an image from Timeless Textures. I also sprayed one of the images with Stampin’ Mist and stamped over the background to lift/bleach some of the background paint!

I stamped the star fish in So Saffron first and then Crushed Curry, before cutting it out to lay it over the linen thread twirls. I finished off with a sentiment stamped in Basic Gray and some of the clear sequins from the metallics sequins assortment.

So what do you think? Does it belong or not? 😀

Well take a look at the retiring list anyway, in case there are some items left that you would like. My recommendation would be to get them now rather than potentially be disappointed if you wait! And don’t forget to use my monthly club code (it’s up on the top of the side bar to the right or at the bottom of the post) to receive a free gift from me if your order is under £150!

Picture Perfect is not retiring yay!!!!

Picture Perfect from Stampin’ Up! ® is not retiring yay!!!!

So whilst probably most other Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators, will no doubt be posting beautiful projects of the stamp sets that are retiring, my project today is of one set that I am over the moon to say is NOT retiring woohoo! (I’m not really a rebel, I’m just too disorganised to have other projects using retiring stuff ready! lol). Picture Perfect is carrying over in to the new annual catalogue due out 1st June!

Picture Perfect Pink Rose VIntage Wallpaper from Stampin' Up! Tracy May

Picture Perfect is a two-step stamping, photo realistic stamp set and if you hadn’t already guessed that I absolutely love this set, then maybe today’s card will convince you! It’s not really my usual style but I love it. It kind of reminds me of vintage floral wallpaper, at least that is what sprang to mind as soon as I stamped the first flower in Pink Pirouette, Blushing Bride and Rose Red! I followed that with Pear Pizazz, Wild Wasabi and Garden Green for the leaves.

Ah I’ve just realised I do have some retiring product on this card. I used a wooden sentiment from the Expressions Natural Elements embellishments. I covered it in Versamark and then Heat & Stick Powder before covering it with gold glitter!

I do hope you like it!

Do be sure to check out the retiring products if there’s anything in particular you’ve had your eye on! Some items sell out extremely quickly!

Watercolour Hummingbird

Watercolour Hummingbird created with Picture Perfect from Stampin’ Up! ® #GDP031 Theme Nature

I had a friend around a couple of Friday nights ago for a girls night in. She sat colouring in one of my colouring books and I was playing around making a couple of cards and experimenting water colouring some stamped flowers. She told me she was thinking of getting a watercolour tatoo and showed me a couple of images she liked! One of them was a watercolour hummingbird – you can see where this post is heading right?

I googled watercolour hummingbird and there is an overwhelming array of images that comes up in the search, I kind of got sidetracked trying to be too clever, using marker pens to colour in the stamps before stamping and spritzing with water. Needless to say none of the efforts paid off once they’d dried and I was on the verge of giving up the idea when I thought I would just try one more time but with something much simpler!

Picture Perfect from Stampin' Up! Watercolour Hummingbird Tracy May 01

So I stamped the image marked no. 4 in the Picture Perfect set – the one with the beak. I used Basic Gray Archival ink as it’s water proof. I then stamped image no.1 in Tempting Turquoise and spritzed with water – playing around with how much water and where I spritzed until I had a good flow of ink and water mixing on the paper. Then I inked up the little throat stamp, marked no. 2 in the set, with Melon Mambo and stamped onto the wet paper.

I absolutely love the result. I posted the image just after I had stamped and spritzed it on Instagram and Facebook and it got lots of likes and comments, so I thought I would do a little video and also a Periscope of the technique. The video is on my YouTube channel – I hope you like it. Please like and subscribe whist you’re there……….. 😊…… thank you!

GDP031

And super bonus is that this card qualifies for the Global Design Project challenge this week where the theme is nature! How fantastic! Double win!

I accidentally dropped the sentiment stamp on to this one when it had ink on it already – I almost cried, until I remembered I could just go over it with water and blend the colour into the background. Duh! I stamped the sentiment over the top once it was dry!

Picture Perfect Watercolouring with Stampin’ Write Markers

Picture Perfect Watercolouring with Stampin’ Write Markers

If you follow my blog, you’ve probably realised I love watercolouring! I’m forever dabbling and experimenting. Some attempts turn out great (whilst others are a complete failure)! How about this for Picture Perfect Watercolouring with Stampin’ Write Markers (ha ha sorry couldn’t resist!)

Picture Perfect Watercolouring with Stampin' Write Markers

I started playing with the Stampin’ Write markers after watching a video on an online course about the various watercolour mediums you can use!  (I am taking the Watercolor for Cardmakers: Exploring Mediums which is the second class in the Watercolor for Card Makers series). It was just one of the introductory videos and  but it inspired me to try out a technique using the markers and a spray bottle of water to see how they would work. Fantastic is how! The ink is water-based and whilst they technically aren’t watercolour markers on watercolour paper (with water) they work as if they are!

Picture Perfect Watercolouring with Stampin' Write Markers

I used 3 green shades Pear Pizazz, Wild Wasabi and Garden Green to create the foliage. Whilst the watercolour paper was still damp I dabbed my Melon Mambo marker around the green to create the flowers. I love how both cards turned out, although with the second card I went back and added some more colour with the ink splashes stamp from Timeless Textures.

Card ideas for Picture Perfect from Stampin’ Up!

Card ideas for Picture Perfect from Stampin’ Up!

I’m back with more Card ideas for Picture Perfect from Stampin’ Up!. You can see the other cards I have made using this wonderful stamp set in this post and this post. I love this stamp set. I immediately thought of old black and white or sepia photos when I saw it, which is probably what the designers had in mind given the name! Lol!

It took a couple of attempts of playing around with the colours on the hummingbird before I got the effect I was after and I still have other ideas in mind to try out too! But take a look and let me know what you think.

I used Timeless Textures again for this card! Don’t worry Gorgeous Grunge I have not forgotten you! Lol! I first stamped the frame around the card and then used the grid stamp to mimic a trellis on a garden wall or fence.

I used the flourish or fleur de lit stamp to mimic a creeper plant that a hummingbird would feed from. My friend I made the card for loved it thankfully!

I made another version at the same time using a different colour scheme. I love both but think they grey one is my favourite. How about you – which do you prefer?

My friend’s husband was with her, when I gave her the card and he was very impressed with the stamp sets used and how they work to build up the image. He’s very artistic so the whole process is very interesting to him and we ended up talking about Stampin’ Up! and how I had ended up joining as a Demonstrator and how much I love it -see my About Me page for my (short) story 🙂 – and how much I enjoy sharing Stampin’ Up! through my classes and my blog!

Picture Perfect & Timeless Textures from Stampin’ Up!

Picture Perfect & Timeless Textures from Stampin’ Up! – Sneak Peak from the upcoming Spring/Summer 2016 Catalogue

The last couple of days have been spent in admin mode. A friend had offered to have the boys over for a playdate with her two children the other day and rather than dive into all the new stamp sets from the Spring/Summer 2016 catalogue as I was itching to do, I was good and filed my tax return! It’s one of those tasks you put off and put off, but then ends up not being as bad as you thought it would be! So last night I gave myself some time off catching up on the rest of my admin and had a play with Picture Perfect & Timeless Textures from Stampin’ Up!

I have been itching to have a proper play around with both these sets and inspired by a stunning card by Miranda, a Dutch Demonstrator, which you can see here, I put them both together. I tried a sepia-ish colour scheme first, but then thought it might look better in shades of grey. What do you think? Which one do you prefer?Picture Perfect Timeless Texture from Stampin' Up! Tracy May

I teamed them up with glimmer paper, metallic thread and sequins for some bling.

I love the grungy look of these cards. They are softer than my usual style which is crisp and sharp, but I think they are still CAS (clean and simple).

I can’t decide if I like the Bermuda Bay one better or the Watermelon Wonder.

Picture Perfect Timeless Texture from Stampin' Up! Tracy May

I layered the images from Timeless Textures over each other, stamping off first to get the faded look.

It’s hard to see in the photo but I added Wink of Stella Clear to all the flowers. They look lovely and shimmery in real life.

Picture Perfect from Stampin’ Up! – Sneak Peak Alert

Picture Perfect from Stampin’ Up! – Sneak Peak Alert

I’m going to try to make this a super quick post this morning. The Bedlam Brothers are off school for the Holidays and so my time as a blogger, SU demo etc is super limited. I will mostly be peace keeper, entertainer and many other hats during the day whilst they are off! Mind you I’ve set them to tidying their playroom and by the sounds of it not much tidying is going on in there! They are so easily distracted – hmm think they get that trait from me!! Anyway, here’s a sneak peak of Picture Perfect from Stampin’ Up! I’m entering today’s card into the Global Design Project #GDP016 Case the Designer Challenge.

Picture Perfect from Stampin' Up! Tracy May #GDP016

I used a few elements from Bibi’s card for the CASE the designer challenge. I used the blue, white and gold colour scheme (I even coloured the staple with a Gold Sharpie!!) as well as loosely following the sketch. I hope it doesn’t look thrown together in a hurry – even though it was! Lol!

Ooooh before I forget, I was actually picked as one of the winners from last week’s Celebrate challenge with this card! I’m super happy about that – thanks Team GDP! 👍😘

I love the new Picture Perfect from Stampin’ Up! – it’s such a stunning set and I will be showing more than just the flower on this card. I have ideas swimming around my head that I want to try out. I think I need two weeks solid locked in my craft room to try out all the ideas for the new catalogue products I bought in pre-order – that’s even without the bonus Sale-a-bration freebies too!

Picture Perfect from Stampin’ Up! will be available to order from January 5th! Let me know if you aren’t on my catalogue mailing list but would like to be (UK, NL, DE, FR, AT only I’m afraid).
