Goodbye Summer Silhouettes from Stampin’ Up!

It’s Goodbye Summer Silhouettes from Stampin’ Up! ® – it’s on the retiring list!

I haven’t used Summer Silhouettes from Stampin’ Up! nearly as much as I should have or would have liked to have done. It kind of got ignored in favour of the more exciting or bolder stamp sets on my shelf. By that I mean the ones with the bigger, bolder images. Summer Silhouettes is one of the more subtle, pretty stamp sets I think. It is on the retiring list now so it’s time to say goodbye. I decided to give it farewell by using it for this week’s Global Design Project Challenge #GDP033. It’s a colour challenge this week and coincidentally a very similar colour scheme to yesterday’s Create with Connie & Mary challenge.

Global Design Project 033

I started with a Sahara Sand card base and scored 3 lines down the left hand side to create a bit of interest. I then cut down a piece of Night of Navy (approx 12.8 x 9cm) and a piece of Whisper White (approx 12.3 x 8.5cm).

I stamped the stems first in Sahara Sand and then I stamped the flower in Calypso Coral. I stamped off on scrap paper first to mute the Calypso Coral a little as I wanted a softer look for this card. The sentiment from Teeny Tiny Sentiments is actually stamped in Night of Navy, although it kind of looks black in the picture.

I mounted the stamped panel on to the Night of Navy and adhered them to the card base using Stampin’ Dimensionals! I’m happy with the results – it’s a soft pretty card that will make a good thank you card for one of my lovely customers don’t you think?

Why don’t you head on over to the Global Design Challenge blog and see what everyone else has made! Join in if you can – it’s great fun!

Don’t forget to check out the Retiring list too – things are flying off the shelves at a rate of knots but there are still lots of goodies to be had!

Summer Silhouettes Shadow Stamping from Stampin’ Up!

Summer Silhouettes Shadow Stamping from Stampin’ Up!

I’ve decided that I need to get back to using some of my lovely stamp sets from the annual catalogue that have been neglected so much of late. So today my project is using Summer Silhouettes from Stampin’ Up! ®. I have had this set for ages and think I have actually only made one other card with it (well two but both were in this post).

I have seen some stunning watercolour backgrounds with an allium created by using just the dandelions from the Balloon Celebration set, like the one on the right in this photo from the Stampin’ Up! Spring/Summer Catalogue.

I wanted something a bit quicker though, so I teamed Summer Silhouettes up with Balloon Celebration and came up with this…

I couldn’t quite capture the shimmer of the White Shimmer paper I used for the card front on the photo unfortunately, but it’s lovely in real life.

I masked a strip down the card front using two large Post-It notes, and then sponged with Soft Sky ink to create the background. I then shadow stamped the stem first in Soft SKy and then Night of Navy, repeating the process for the flowers and some of the dandelions “floating” away in the air.

I added some sequins and rhinestones along with the metallic silver thread to jazz it up a bit. Overall I’m quite pleased with the results. I don’t think it’s a wow card though, so the challenge is on to come up with something similar but which stretches my skills and ends up with the wow too! Watch this space! LoL!

Well I hope you’ve enjoyed today’s projects.  Don’t forget the Stampin’ Up! Sale-a-bration promotion finishes at the end of March.

Summer Silhouettes from Stampin’ Up!

Clean and simple card for Less is More Colour Challenge “Fire” (week 249) using Summer Silhouettes from Stampin’ Up!

Hey again, It’s me, back with another challenge card. I’m really getting into these challenges at the moment. Today’s is the Less is More Colour Challenge where the colour scheme is Fire i.e. colours you would see in fire. I’m using Summer Silhouettes from Stampin’ Up!. It’s a beautiful stamp set that I only acquired recently, despite it having been on my list for ages!

I came up with two versions of the card. The first is the one I am entering in to the challenge. I’m not sure if it’s my favourite of the two. I keep changing my mind. Which one do you prefer?

I’ve decided to use Real Red, Tangerine Tango and Daffodil Delight for the red, orange and yellow you would see in flames.

The second card I made using watercolour paper for the card front. I sprayed it with water before stamping over it. It’s a different look from the first but still meets the clean and simple criteria, don’t you think?

I’m going to pop over and add the link to the Less is More page, then I’ll be frantically finishing off my swaps for OnStage Live which starts tomorrow – can’t wait although in reality (and as usual) I need another day to prepare! 🙂

Before I forget, check out this week’s deals…..
