Swallowtail from Stampin’ Up!

Stylish birthday card using Swallowtail from Stampin’ Up!

It was my Mum’s birthday last week and for some reason I have gotten in to the habit of making her a butterfly birthday card. So this year I picked Swallowtail from Stampin’ Up!, which I haven’t used for quite some time. In fact I think the last time I used it was to complete a make and take following my team leader’s monthly training event well over a year ago. (Click here to view the card).

To be honest, Swallowtail isn’t the only stamp set I haven’t used for a long time. I seem to have absolute favourites for a while, which then fade into the background, after each new catalogue release and a new favourite comes along. I must make it my mission to dust them off and give them all an outing! Lol! 🙂

One of Mum’s favourite colour schemes is red and gold, so I stamped the Swallowtail in Versamark and randomly sprinkled with Cherry Cobbler and Gold Stampin’ Emboss powder. (I masked off the card front to create a border).

What do you think? The contrast between the colours is not as vivid as I had hoped it would be, but I still think it’s quite effective. (p.s. I used Talented Trio for the sentiment).

Watercolor Wings – Clean and Simple Stampin’ Up! Birthday Card

Clean and Simple Stampin’ Up! Birthday Card created using Watercolor Wings and Kinda Eclectic

Do you ever look at things so much, that you start not seeing them? Or is that just me? I’ve spent this week apologising to people for missing their birthday, despite having my Perpetual Birthday Calendar on the pinboard above my desk and despite the fact that I glance at it multiple times to check whose birthday is coming up! I think I’ve stopped seeing the dates now! I can’t believe I’ve managed it 5 times in October already!

Today’s project is a clean and simple Stampin’ Up! birthday card, that I made for my younger sister, whose birthday it was on Monday. And yes she is one of the birthdays I forgot! She did eventually get the card on Wednesday and I’m pleased to say she really liked it.  I got the idea for the layout from this card on Pinterest.

I was really pleased with how it turned out. Very clean and simple. I love the red and black colour combination. I also hand made the envelope to match, using the Real Red envelope paper available in the Autumn/Winter catalogue.

Sparkly Seasons Tiny Dancer from Stampin’ Up!

Sparkly Seasons Tiny Dancer from Stampin’ Up!

Morning folks. How are you today? The sun is shining today, after 2 days of torrential rain – fingers crossed it stays this way. I’ve probably jinxed it now by mentioning it haven’t I? I.

Anyhow, on to today’s project. A few months ago I had been reading this blog post by Lydia Fiedler and she said that the dancer, from the Talented Trio Stampin’ Up! ® stamp set, made the song Tiny Dancer by Elton John jump into her head. I had never heard of this song before but that was ok, I could get the connection from the title.  A few weeks/a month or so after this, I was watching a TV programme and a new advert by John Lewis, for home insurance, came on. It’s of a little girl dancing around her house in a tutu knocking into all the furniture and making vases and the TV etc wobble as if they will fall over (you can see it on YouTube here). And yep you’ve guessed it. The sound track is Tiny Dancer by Elton John. I now can not get the song out of my head (I’m humming it as I’m typing) especially when I saw  the tiny dancer stamp in Sparkly Seasons.

And so I give you my very own Sparkly Seasons Tiny Dancer from Stampin’ Up!, which makes the song pop right back in to my head every time I look at it! Mind you it could be worse, I actually like the song a lot. It’s not one of those annoyingly nauseating songs that grate on your nerves. Thank you Lydia for the inspiration 😊.

I love it. I used the same layout as my snow globe Christmas card, but made this a birthday card instead. I love, love, love this stamp set. I hope it carries over in to the next annual catalogue. What do you think? (And I’m sorry if you have got the song going round and round in your head now too 😉)

Thanks for stopping by. Before you go – check out the weekly deals x
