New Spring/Summer 2017 Catalogue & Sale-a-bration

Oh how exciting is it? Very very very! Not only is the new Spring/Summer 2017 catalogue available, it’s also the start of Sale-a-bration! SAB is Stampin’ Up!’s biggest promotion of the year! As a demonstrator, I was able to pre-order from the catalogue and earn SAB items in December. I’ve been having a play and I think my favourite new product has to be the watercolour pencils. They are fabulous. I’ve teamed them up with Beautiful You by Stampin’ Up! for today’s projects.

As I wanted to create a no line water colour image, I first stamped off on scrap paper before stamping on to watercolour paper. I used smoky slate as it’s a neutral colour and the Real Red and Pacific Blue watercolour pencils can be painted on much darker. Then I used an aqua painter to flick off the end of the pencils to get the splatter effect. I got the idea for this card from an Arttutor Brusho tutorial I had seen.

I think this one is my favourite, even though I messed the extended leg up a bit. You can see a hard water mark where I didn’t manage to blend the paint properly.

Aren’t they beautiful? Even if I do say so myself Lol!

No line watercolour Santa Snowman

No line watercolour Santa Snowman using Sparkly Seasons from Stampin’ Up!

Do you ever have days where you just can’t remember how to do something you have actually done a few times before? Well I’m having one today! I wanted to upload a video clip of the no line watercolor technique I used for today’s project, which is a Santa snowman card that I’m entering in to the Less is More One Layer Santa challenge.

I’ve edited a few videos in iMovie already, but I’m struggling to remember how to do it today. I thought I had better get on with the post though as it’s almost time to go and pick up the Bedlam Brothers from school – I’ve no idea where 6 hours goes so quickly 🙂

UPDATED: 25/11/2015 here’s the video – click here

So what is no line watercolour? It’s quite simple really. Stamp an image in a very pale water-based ink so you have a faint outline to work with, then proceed to watercolour the image in the colours you want “washing” out the faint outline with the watercolouring. I will post the video here for you once I have managed to work out how to edit it! I promise so check back later or check out my YouTube channel!

I used Stampin’ Write Markers and a very fine paint brush. First I coloured the outline of the snowman on the stamp using the Smoky Slate marker, then I stamped it off on scrap paper before stamping directly onto the card base to create a very faint outline. I then went over the outline of the hat with the writing end of the Real Red marker and dragged the colour in to fill in the hat with a damp paintbrush. I moved on to the scarf and did the same. For the head and the body I used a very small amount of Smoky Slate and repeated the process of drawing the colour in to the body. I went over the image again until I was happy with it (I will get that video up so you can see what I mean). Then I used Pool Party for the ground and finally went over the details of the face, twiggy arms and buttons using the Basic Black marker.

I added a touch of Dazzling Details to make his hat and body sparkle a little. It made the buttons bleed a little but I thought it just added to the watercolour effect, which is good! What do you think? I hope you like it and are inspired to give the technique a go!

Well I’d better run and fetch the boys home – have a fabulous weekend!

Don’t forget about the 20% off offer – it ends today!
