Christmas In July

Christmas in July for the Paper Players Challenge PP302

OMG! I can’t believe I’m using the “C” word! Yes Christmas – gasp, shock, horror! Until I joined Stampin’ Up! I never even used to think about Christmas until end of November at the earliest! Lol! Now it’s usually around August when the new Autumn/Winter catalogue comes out. Even then I don’t really get started until September really. BUT, I wanted to play along with the Paper Players again this week where the theme is Christmas in July!

pp302

I don’t have any Christmas stamps left since the last catalogue retired and my trusty White Winter stamp set retired and I have refused to buy anything Christmassy from the new catalogue so far. So I have had to improvise! Actually that’s not a bad thing! It just goes to show what you can come up with using your existing stash!

I started with a background panel of Soft Sky, embossed with my ever favourite, Softly Falling embossing folder. I then cut out a circle of Whisper White, using the new Layering Circles Framelits. I stamped the presents from the new Weather Together stamp set. I had been wondering why this set had presents in it, but hey I’m not complaining! Lol! I did a little bit of masking using sticky notes (first you stamp the image on the sticky note and then cut it out to mask off the stamped image on your card).

The sentiment is from the ever so useful Teeny Tiny Sentiments stamp set, which is currently the only one I  have with a Christmas Greeting in! I finished off the card with some Wink of Stella, Silver metallic thread and sequins!

So what do you think? I hope you like it! It was great fun to make. Don’t forget to pop over to the Paper Players to see what the design team and other peeps have come up with!

Helping Me Grow From Stampin’ Up! – #PP297 Tic-Tac-Toe

I can hardly wait for tomorrow! The new Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalogue will be live! There are so many new products I have been dying to get my hands on, I can tell you! You will love this new catalogue!

In the meantime, I’ve been distracting myself with some of my pre-loved and happy to say still current stamp sets from the retiring Spring/Summer catalogue instead. I’m playing Tic-Tac-Toe on the Paper Players Challenge blog today! I’ve never done one of these challenges before, but it certainly challenges the mojo that’s for sure!

If you’ve never seen one of these either, the deal is to choose 3 in a row either horizontally, vertically or diagonally! I decided to go along the top horizontally! So my choice was Yellow, Twine and Birthday! For the Yellow I thought of the daisies in Helping Me Grow from Stampin’ Up! (Yes it is carrying over to new catalogue hurrah!)

As I had some Daffodil Delight Re-inker already in my water colouring palette (which was out on my desk), I decided on a water colour background! It was only when i was stamping the daisies in Daffodil Delight over the top of the dry water coloured background that I had a deja-vu moment! I was CASEing a card I had seen from the very talented Artisan design team member Krista Frattin!

Here’s Krista’s card – hers is so beautiful, it must have stuck in my mind! And here’s my version below – with the addition of the Baker’s Twine and Birthday sentiment to fit the challenge!

So what do you think? I actually really like the water coloured background. I’m learning to be more patient with water colouring and allowing washes to dry before adding more paint/ink! For this one I did one wash in Daffodil Delight before adding big splats from a large brush once that wash was dry. When the splats were dry I added more splats of clean water and when they were dry I added a few finer splats of virtually undiluted ink using a smaller brush.

Layering Love from Stampin’ Up! Another Sneak Peek

pp296

I’m playing along with the Paper Players Challenge again this week! This week it’s a sketch challenge and I thought the sketch was ideal to have a play with a new stamp set Layering Love from Stampin’ Up! I love the sentiments in this set and the fact that they co-ordinate with the new Sweet & Sassy Framelits, which is a set of 4 differently shaped nesting hearts totalling 15 hearts of various sizes. It’s lovely and I will be playing with those a load more I’m sure!

I decided to go for a heart aperture instead of a circle over the top of the card front though!

It’s really easy to do:

  1. Stamp the sentiment onto the card base to use as a guide;
  2. Line up the heart framelit over the sentiment on the card base and run through the Big Shot with the card open flat to cut out the hear aperture;
  3. Stamp the sentiment in Basic Black Archival Ink onto Watercolour paper (you could use the card base aperture as a guide to line up where to stamp;
  4. Watercolour with an aqua painter and ink refills (I used Daffodil Delight, Peekaboo Peach and Tangerine Tango);
  5. Allow to dry (or dry with a heat tool), stamp the little hearts and then line up the water colour card inside the card base (trim of necessary) and stick down;
  6. Finish the card front with a doodled border, punched out heart and some clear sequins.

I went a bit OTT with the hearts on the inside I think! Lol!

Well I hope you like it and have enjoyed another Sneak Peek. The new catalogue will be here soon, so not long to wait now!

Watercolour Flamingoes from Stampin’ Up!

Watercolour Flamingoes from Stampin’ Up!

pp295

I’ve found a new blog challenge to play along with! Oh I do love doing these when I can. They are great for kick starting the mojo if it’s gone walkies! That wasn’t the case with my entry today though! I was originally going to make some tags using watercolour flamingoes from Stampin’ Up! Well actually the original stamp image from Stampin’ Up! is not a watercolour one, I just turned it into one – you know if you follow my blog water colouring is one of my passions/obsessions (delete as appropriate lol!).

Anyway, when I came across the Paper Players challenge #PP295, I thought it looked like a load of fun and so I grabbed my watercolour flamingoes and turned them into clean and simple cards!

Pop of Paradise from Stampin' Up Watercolour Flamingo Flirty Flamingo Tracy May #PP295

It is seriously easy to turn the Flamingo from the new Pop of Paradise stamp set into a watercolour image!

  1. Stamp the flamingo onto watercolour paper using a pale shade of the colour you want. I used Pink Pirouette for the card above;
  2. Using an aqua painter go over the image with water to lose the definition of the image i.e. the face and feathers;
  3. Whilst the flamingo is still wet drop in darker shades of your colour – I used Blushing Bride and Flirty Flamingo;
  4. Allow to dry before adding a pale wash of blue around the feet – I used Soft Sky (unfortunately it’s not that clear in the picture above);
  5. When your watercolouring is dry mount your card front onto a co-ordinating card base – I used Flirty Flamingo;
  6. Add a sentiment in black so that it stands out;
  7. Finish with some splats of wink of stella and rhinestones!

See I told you it was easy!

So easy I made some more in fact!

They are all using the new In-Colours: (Left to right) Peekaboo Peach, Flirty Flamingo, Dapper Denim!

So what do you think? I just love this set and can’t wait for the new catalogue so everyone can get their hands on it!

Why don’t you pop over to the Paper Players challenge blog and take a look at what everyone else has come up with?! 😊
